Medvedchuk told the details of his detention by the SBU in April last year

The chairman of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life, which is banned on the territory of Ukraine, Viktor Medvedchuk, on the air of Channel One, told how he was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in April last year.

According to the politician, he was detained by territorial defense fighters on April 12 at around 18:00, who saw him by chance, since he is a recognizable person in Ukraine. Medvedchuk said that they put handcuffs and a bag on him, “dragged” him into another car, after which he ended up in counterintelligence.

“It was the hardest day of my life. Probably the hardest. April 12,” he said.

The politician also told how the photo was taken, where he is in military uniform and handcuffed. According to him, the picture was taken on the night of April 13 in the office of the head of the SBU department. He was brought there after his arrest. When the “bag” was removed from Medvedchuk’s head, the head of the SBU (at that time) Ivan Bakanov stood in front of him.

Answering the question about the use of violence against him, the politician replied that they did not use physical violence against him, but “everything else was.” As an example, he cited the fact that for several months he was constantly in handcuffs.

On April 13, 2022, it became known that Ukrainian opposition politician Viktor Medvedchuk was detained in Ukraine on the personal instructions of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In September 2022, Medvedchuk was exchanged along with 55 Russian servicemen – Ukraine, in turn, received 215 people.

The office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine stated that he would continue to be tried in Ukraine in absentia and behind closed doors.
